What could be better on a cold winter day than a steaming hot pot of homemade chili? This recipe combines several different recipes that were collected over the years.
Chili, Slow Cooked, Beef

Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef lean is best
- 1/2 lb Italian pork sausage can also use 1 lb
- 1 medium onion chopped (1/2 cup)
- 1 medium red bell pepper chopped
- 28 oz can diced tomatoes do NOT drain
- 15 oz can tomato sauce
- 1 tsp sugar
- 1 ½ tsp cumin ground
- 2 tsp chili powder
- 1 tsp oregano dried
- 1 tsp coriander dried
- 1 TBL garlic powder
- 15 oz can spicy chili beans undrained
- 15 oz can garbanzo beans drained and rinsed
- Sour cream, sliced green onion, or grated cheddar cheese for toppings, if desired
Instructions
- In 10-inch skillet, cook beef, sausage and onion over medium-high heat 5 to 7 minutes, stirring frequently, until beef is thoroughly cooked; drain.
- In 3 to 4 quart slow cooker, mix beef mixture and and remaining ingredients except sour cream, green onion and cheese.
- Cover; cook on low heat setting 7 to 8 hours. Top individual servings with sour cream, green onions, and cheddar cheese.
Notes
Can also substitute ground turkey for the beef and kidney beans for garbanzo beans.
