Granola Cereal

This original recipe came from the September 2006 issue of Runners World magazine and was further modified.

2 1/2 cups old-fashioned rolled oats (about 1/2 pound)
1/2 cup wheat-bran cereal
1/2 cup wheat germ
1/3 cup whole or slivered almonds
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 cup honey (buckwheat is best for you)
1/4 canola oil
1/3 cup seedless raisins and/or cranberries

Preheat oven to 300 degrees. Combine oats, bran, wheat germ, almonds, and cinnamon in a bowl.  Heat the honey and oil in a saucepan until small bubbles appear around the sides of the pan.  Pour over dry mixtrue and toss until well combined.

Spread evenly in a foil-lined shallow baking pan.  Bake 40 to 50 minutes or until golden brown, stirring every 10 minutes.  Add raisins and cranberries.  Cool and store in an air-tight container.  Makes about five cups.
